Grid, sieve and rock buckets have bars instead of a solid back, so sand and soil fall through while rock, roots and rubble stay in. On Perth Hills gravel and coastal limestone blocks they let you reuse the fines and dump only the rock.
How to choose
- Grid buckets on excavators for sorting spoil as you dig
- Rock buckets on skid steers for loading and clearing rubble
- Bar spacing decides what falls through; wider for rock, narrower for roots
Tip
Shake the bucket over the stockpile rather than the hole so the fines stay useful.
