Inspecting a Mini Excavator at the Currumbin Waters Warehouse: What to Check
Gold Coast buyers can see, start and drive a Rippa machine before paying. A twenty-minute inspection routine that tells you everything a spec sheet cannot.
Most people who buy a machine online never sit on it first. Gold Coast buyers can, because the warehouse is at Currumbin Waters. Here is how to use the visit.
Book it
Call 1300 263 551 and say which machines you want to see. The team will have them fuelled and clear of the racks. Allow half an hour per machine if you want to drive it.
Walk around first
- Serial and compliance plates. Photograph them; you will need them for insurance.
- Engine plate. Confirm the engine model matches the listing (Kubota Z482, D722, D902, D1105, V2607, Briggs & Stratton, Yanmar).
- Tracks and undercarriage. New rubber tracks should be uniform, with no cracking. Check the tension.
- Hoses and fittings. Look for weeping fittings and chafe points on the boom and dipper.
- Bucket, teeth and pins. New machines should show no play at the pins.
Start it
Listen for a clean start and a settled idle. Watch the exhaust; a puff of white smoke on a cold start is normal on a small diesel, blue or black smoke at operating temperature is not. Check the hour meter reads close to zero on a new machine.
Work the hydraulics
Raise and lower the boom, curl the bucket, swing left and right, lift the blade, and run the auxiliary circuit if a hydraulic attachment is fitted. Movements should be smooth without shudder. Widen and narrow the tracks on the adjustable-undercarriage models (R10, R13 PRO, R15, R18 PRO).
Drive it
Track forward and back, turn on the spot, climb the loading ramp. This is the part that tells you whether the machine feels right for you, and whether the seat, controls and canopy suit your size.
Talk about the work
Tell the team what you will dig and where. A Gold Coast canal block, a Mudgeeraba slope and a Tamborine Mountain farm want different machines and different buckets, and the people at the warehouse see all three every week.
Paperwork
Ask for the tax invoice with the serial number, the warranty terms, the manuals and the service schedule. If you are collecting, confirm your trailer and tow vehicle are rated for the machine with the towing check before you arrive.
